I am, and always have been, one of those people who listens to a lot of different kinds of music. A part of this comes from my extensive musical background – I played the violin, viola, and flute for many years (12, 7, and 8 years, respectively), and also sung in a choir of some kind for 10 years. Music has always been a part of my soul.
For this reason, I really don’t dislike any genre as a whole. I can find a couple of artists/songs that I like in pretty much every one, but what I listen to pretty much depends on my mood. I like Top 40, but I also love folk/singer-songwriter/alternative and country. In fact, those two are pretty much my favorite, which is one of the reasons why living in Nashville is so incredibly awesome. Last night, I went to a show that featured 3 singer-songwriters who sing folky/alternativey/country/esque music (you know what I mean by that combination I’m sure) and finished up with awesome a capella.
If you watch the Sing-Off or follow a capella, you’ve probably heard of them. Street Corner Symphony of awesomeness.
It was so cool to see and hear them live. And the great thing about Nashville is that there are so many music venues and it’s not overly large or crowded – it’s just good quality music in a great environment with great people.
If you’re ever in Nashville, you should hit up a show at Mercy Lounge. I can’t believe that I’ve lived here for 3 years and hadn’t been to one before.
Have a great Sunday, lovely people!
