Gift Guide: Books & Bookish Gifts

I have to admit, this is one of my favorite gift guides to create every year, and one of the only ones that I regularly make. I have suggested books for various categories or type of person who is receiving the gift, as well as some book-related gifts.

As a reminder, I strongly suggest signing up for Ebates. It’s a Google Chrome extension that automatically looks for coupons and cashback when you shop. Some stores have up to 10% cashback! Every quarter they give you the cash you’ve earned from online shopping. If you use my link and shop, you’ll get $10. (For the record, I will also get money for referring you.) Sign up here.

Shopping for a bookworm this holiday season? Here are book suggestions for a wide variety of people, as well as gifts for bookworms that are sure to be successful, no matter who you're shopping for.

Book Gifts

If you don’t shop online, shop local! There are some locally-owned book stores out there still, but they’re getting harder and harder to find. If you’re in Boston, check out Trident Booksellers & Café. If you’re in Nashville, check out Parnassus Books. If you’re in Portland, Maine, check out Longfellow Books or Nonesuch Books in South Portland (I grew up coming here and I’m so glad they’re still around!).

Award winners: Exit West (here’s my review), The Sympathizer (here’s my review), Truly Madly Guilty, When Breath Becomes Air, 4 3 2 1

For your politically conservative friend: Sisters First, Ronald Reagan: How an Ordinary Man Became an Extraordinary Leader

For your politically liberal friend: What Happened; Promise Me, Dad; Unbelievable: My Front Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History

For your teenager or college student: I Hate Everyone But You (here’s my review), Turtles All the Way Down, Six of Crows (here’s my review), The Hate U Give

Shopping for a bookworm this holiday season? Here are the books that I suggest you get them, as well as my reviews for some of them so you can help decide if they're the right fit for whoever you're shopping for.

For your middle schooler: Wonder, The Lightning Thief, A Wrinkle in Time

For your friend who stopped watching Game of Thrones: Outlander, The Fifth Season, Carve the Mark

For your friend who gets motion sickness: Audible subscription – I can’t read in the car or on the T; sometimes even reading Twitter will make me feel sick. Audible has been a life saver, especially since the car rides to Maine are 4 hours one way.

For your friend who loves the royals: The Royal We (here’s my review), Kings & Queens of England and Scotland, The Heir and the Spare

For your friend obsessed with Hamilton: Hamilton: The Revolution, The Culper Ring: The History and Legacy of the Revolutionary War’s Most Famous Spy Ring, 1776

For your aspiring chef: Cravings, Smitten Kitten Every Day, Half Baked Harvest Cookbook

For your friend who likes poetry: Milk and Honey, War Paint, Love Her Wild
