I’ve received such positive responses to my posts on saying no and prioritizing from the past couple of days that I thought I would finish the week off with a final one about the best tip ever for keeping yourself emotionally (and physically, really) healthy: take a break.
It is Friday morning of my first week as a part of The Real World (no, not the TV show, duh), and let me just say that I am SO excited for the weekend. This week, I’ve been at school from 6AM until sometime between 3:30 and 5:30PM every single day. That’s 9.5 hours at school at the minimum. And don’t get me started on all the work I’ve done at home. So come yesterday afternoon, at least 3 different people told me to take the afternoon off and give myself a break.
A day earlier, I might have said, “A break? I’d love one! But the weekend is so soon and I really should get some more work done.” But I’ll be the first to admit that I really, really needed one on Thursday. So I came home, watched some NCIS, took a mental break, and went to bed earlier than normal. Because I needed it.
Sometimes I wonder if I need a daily reminder that life is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. I live every day like it’s a sprint, going going going until I crash. This isn’t healthy.
Consider this your reminder that you need a break, and even marathon runners can stop to walk when they want to.
