I have been fortunate to have a fair number of new followers over the past week or so. With that in mind, I thought that I would take a few minutes to introduce myself to those of you who are new.
As you already know, my name is Kate. I’m from Maine, and I went to Vanderbilt University where I double majored in secondary education and English. I currently live in Nashville, Tennessee, and I teach 9th grade English. (Sorry – I don’t comment on if I teach directly in the city or in part of the greater Nashville area.) I also am a published author, as my book Aureole came out July 2012.
I am a HUGE fan of the Boston Red Sox, and I will be annoying about it. Fenway Park is a beautiful, beautiful place. I also root for the Boston Bruins, New England Patriots (equally annoying about them), Vanderbilt football, and the University of Maine hockey team.
I blog and tweet about coffee and yoga on a regular basis. It’s a bit embarrassing how many fashion magazines I subscribe to and read every month. I’m a huge nerd, on everything from Jane Austen to Doctor Who. In my spare time, I also love to paint, cook, and bake.
I’m also on a very strict diet. I don’t eat gluten, dairy, or hydrogenated oils, because I’m on an anti-inflammatory diet for my rheumatoid arthritis. Basically, if I eat those foods, my body’s reaction is to start swelling somewhere. It’s painful, so I avoid them. This means that my food and recipe posts are always free of those things and usually are adjusted by me to accommodate the necessary changes.
I believe that a single person can make a difference in this world, and I’ll be damned if I don’t. Currently, I’m working on improving the literacy of 13-15 year olds through my job, making life a little easier for other people with inflammatory arthritis, and reducing the sexual violence on Vanderbilt’s campus.
