Why I Yoga

GFC Lovin

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I do a lot of yoga. Of course, “a lot” is a relative term. To some people, the amount that I do is very little. To others, it is massive.

This summer, I have done 15-45 minutes of my own yoga practice each day. This might be on my own, without any guidance, or by using the Yoga Studio app on my iPhone. It also depends on how I’m feeling or if I have plans to go to a class or do some other sort of exercise during the day.

I’m also trying to go to classes 1-2 times a week. The kinds of classes that I’ve gone to include Yoga Basics, Yin Yoga (extremely chill), and Beginner Vinyasa Flow (lots of movement and more active).

At some other point in time, I will explain yoga in more depth. That’s not the point of today’s post.

The point of today’s post to explain why I practice yoga.

1. I’m so focused on holding the pose, that some of my bigger concerns/issues reduce.

2. It makes me aware of my body, all the different joints and muscles, and how I’m holding them.

3. It stretches me and makes my muscles stronger. (Like, I’m fairly certain it’s going to help me keep my joints from surgery at least a little bit longer. Take that, arthritis.)

4. It actually CAN be a work out. If you think otherwise, you’ve clearly never been to a vinyasa flow class, especially a hot one.

5. It tones and strengthens and yeah

6. It helps me center my mind.

Basically, yoga is awesome. Have you ever tried it? What did you think?
