Getting Back into the Swing of Things

Last summer, my life was absolutely crazy, and this one is looking like it will be, too. But one thing that I really enjoyed about my time then was I had this great routine. Every day (starting in middle of June, I’ll admit), I did yoga, worked out with the Nike Training Club app, ate really healthily, drank a lot of water, read, and wrote. It was awesome.

I’d really like to get back to that, but I know that I can’t just jump back into all of it because I’d be really likely to drop one, if not a lot more than that, components. And then I would be said and feel bad about myself, etc., etc. You know how these things go.

So I’m starting little by little. First, I returned to my regular yoga practice today. I did a shortened, modified yoga routine most days during the school year, but lost it in the past couple of months. I’m happy to say that I have returned to it, and starting tomorrow I will be returning to classes. Namaste!

Drinking a lot of water is something that I’ve been good at on and off during the school year. I’m obsessed with the Tervis 24-oz. tumblers, and I try and drink at least 2 of them a day. Some days are more successful than others, but I’m going to make sure that I continue this (and am better at it) this summer in order to reinforce good, healthy habits. Plus, with teaching I found that I needed a lot of water with how much talking I do in a day!

Finally, I’m going to make reading for a fun an extremely high priority in my life. I’ve always enjoyed it – what do you think made me get into teaching English? – but I know that if I want my students to make time to read for fun, I need to make time to read for fun. My current read? A book by one of my favorite authors, Jean Plaidy – Mary, Queen of France.

So this is my start of getting back into the swing of things and sticking to it. Hopefully it will last!
