Kate Mitchell, United States of America

Do you know what’s 3 weeks from today? Do ya? Do ya?

I’m a little excited. I love the Olympics. I love the sports, the national pride, and the feeing of coming together as a world to watch the same events.

I especially love the winter Olympics. Why? H-O-C-K-E-Y

Last week, I watched the 2004 movie Miracle to get excited. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s the story of the 1980 Olympic men’s hockey team, and how they came from behind to defeat the incredible USSR team and then to win the gold medal. It’s incredible!

One of my favorite moments is when the team starts to work as a team and not as individuals for the first time. The coach has asked the players their names, their hometowns, and who they play for. The first time, they all say the college team they play for. This time, though, one of the players goes, “Mike Eruzione, Winthrop, Massachusetts. I play for the United States of America!”You can’t not get chills and want to shout from the rooftops that you play for the United States of America, too.
