Where I Work

Well, I think that it’s safe to say that the reason why I finally got my desk set up (aka 1 HUGE way that my apartment is finally coming together 8.5 months after moving in) is this linkup that I’m participating in today. How embarrassing is that?

I actually have 3 (maybe 4) key work spaces: my dining room table and sometimes the floor of my living room, my desk at work, and my desk in my bedroom. For the past 8 months, until I got my desk set up last week, I did most of my work at home from the dining room and the living room couch/floor. My roommate is a wonderful, wonderful person for putting up with my papers to grade on the table. But I’m finally able to start moving away from that. My desk at work is a beautiful wood desk constantly covered in Post-It reminders and papers to grade/graded. The much better looking work space, and the only I’m going to show you today, would be my lovely white desk.

Yes, that’s a ring-holder shaped like a silver elephant. I got it from the Vanderbilt book store. No, I’m not kidding. Yes, it’s adorable and shiny. Also, I hope you enjoy that old picture of my sister and me. It’s from probably 6 years ago now. We were on a trip to visit our grandparents in Florida. Notice how tan she is and how tan I’m not. (We joke that she got the Italian genes and I got the Irish ones.)

What work space is complete without coffee? And I’m all about hydrating, so I obviously need this mason jar container with a pink straw. See that TARDIS? It’s a cookie jar, but I never use it for that, and I like the nerdiness mixed in with my monograms and pink. I use that legal pad for writing down Photoshop and design tips and tricks that I find, and the pad of paper on top of it is my week at a glance.

I actually painted the chair myself! It, along with so many other things I own, used to live at the house in Maine. I found it in our basement one summer, and I wanted a chair as well as some color in my mostly-white room.

1. Where is your favorite workspace located? (Library, apartment, dorm room?)

This is my favorite space, but I’m also pretty partial to my desk at work. But I can only handle so many hours a day there!

2. Do you prefer a sleek desk or you more of an “organized chaos” kind of person?

So, I like the look of a sleek desk, but almost always my work spaces end up being organized chaos. Except it’s never entirely organized and ends up giving me stress and an anxiety attack just looking at it. Whoops.

3. What is your favorite kind of writing utensil?

Pens! Especially the Papermate fabric pen. I’m also partial to BIC black ink pens. I tend to do a lot of my writing on paper before transcribing it to my computer, so I’ve got through a fair amount of those in recent years.

4. Show us your calendar or agenda!

I actually have an Erin Condren teacher lesson planner! I’ve written about it a couple of times. I’m planning on doing an end-of-the-year review of it within this next month

5. And just for fun, what are you looking forward to most about spring?

Tulips! They are my favorite flower and I’m so excited to see more of them in the coming months. Oh, and being done with my first year of teaching, which will end at the end of May. Shoot me a prayer for getting through the next 2 months, if you don’t mind!

Finally, unrelated entirely to this linkup, I wanted to let you all know that Self-Publishing Sunday will return next Sunday. The topic will be different types of companies to work with!
