I have discovered the perfect beach read for you this summer. If you like the South, chick lit, crime stories, romantic drama, or all of the above, then you’ll enjoy Home Is Where Your Boots Are by Kalan Chapman Lloyd.
When I started this book, I thought that it was going to be a predictable but fun read. And then it started to go places that I never anticipated it would, and I left my assumptions behind to enjoy the ride. And enjoy it I did.
Lilly leaves Dallas behind – including her high-profile job, designer clothes, and cheating fiance – to return to her hometown in Oklahoma. She thinks that she’s returning to small-town drama only, but she quickly becomes entangled in a criminal mystery or two. There’s plenty of drama with her ex-boyfriend, but it’s not entirely the kind that you anticipate. Seriously – I dropped my jaw at one point. And that moment was when I knew that I would have to finish reading it sooner rather than later because I just had to find out what would happen.
Home Is Where Your Boots Are is a run and cute read. It reminded me of the five years I lived in Nashville and of the crime shows I love to watch pretty much daily. It has the heart and drama of One Tree Hill and the brilliant yet realistically flawed main character of, well, OTH’s Haley. It’s the perfect read for summer, and I’m sure that you’ll like it as much as I did.
