Once your blog starts going, you might be interested in starting to earn money from it, also known as monetizing. There are many ways to do this, but if you want to work with companies, you’ll probably need a media kit.
What Is a Media Kit?
A media kit is one handy bit that has everything a potential collaborate could want. It holds your statistics – as many as possible – the services you offer, how to reach you, about your blog, and sometimes the prices that you charge for your services. For example, here is mine, which you can also find on my ad page.
Why Do You Need a Media Kit?
1. It makes you more professional and trustworthy. Potential partnerships will know that they’re being offered the same price as others and aren’t being conned.
2. It reduces the number of emails you receive with offers that don’t provide compensation or don’t have the budget to adequately compensate you. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to receive emails from companies asking me to put in hours of work in exchange for $20 or nothing at all. Your time is valuable – make sure you’re treating it as such.
3. It explains the services you provide, which can attract more partnerships. You might offer a service that a company was not considering, or your prices might point someone in one direction rather than another.
Hi I am Hayley and I write and run Smarty Pants Fashion. I am a Senior Fashion Marketing and Management student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. My blog focuses mostly on fashion, not high end luxury fashion that normal people can’t afford but regular everyday fashion that I would wear. I never post outfits that I would not wear out of my house and I like to keep my outfits affordable because I am a college student and I love my resale websites! On Friday I do this post called free for all friday where I write up anything and everything interesting that I’ve either found throughout the week or that has happened to me. I like to mix up the fashion with a little bit of fun! My upcoming posts will be centered around my recent trip to the Dominican Republic with the Batey Rehab Project. If you want to know more about them and get a feel for what I was doing while I was there head over to their blog!

People definitely need a media kit and they should hire me to design it for them. I'm just saying. Do you mind if I leave a link here? My portfolio has a lot of examples: design.lixhewett.com/portfolio and I have a helpful "what to include" post here: http://lixhewett.com/2014/04/how-to-make-a-media-kit-content/
