It’s hard to believe that Christmas is already over and the end of 2015 is coming up soon. I spent the holiday up in Maine, and it was wonderful. Today I’m sharing a look at my holiday, and scroll down to learn how to enter the Smashbox palette giveaway!
December 23
We made our way up to Maine from Boston on the 23rd! My parents had a short trip a few weeks earlier and had the tree already in place, the lights on it, and other decorations set up so when we got there all we had to do was decorate the tree. During the car ride up, I had lots of Piper snuggles, during which she made just the cutest (and funniest) faces. Also, keep an eye out for Geaghan’s beer! You may find the Smiling Irish Bastard – or maybe others which are now bottled. And if you’re in Bangor, Maine, stop by Geaghan’s Pub or Taproom!
Christmas Eve
It was an abnormally warm Christmas Eve! We just hung out during the day, and I took Piper on a walk. We went to mass in Hampden and then watched Arthur Christmas. I tried to put a Santa hat on Gus, but he didn’t like it very much.
Christmas
Christmas itself was delightfully lazy. In true Mitchell fashion, all gifts were opened by 9 AM! We don’t do an official Christmas dinner, and instead we have a semi-elaborate breakfast. That afternoon, my grandmother and my sister’s boyfriend came over and spent the night, which was lovely. (If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know the story behind that ornament I’m holding!)
Healy Family Christmas
On December 26, my mom’s siblings and their kids came over for Healy Family Christmas! My cousins are all much younger than I am, but they’re old enough now that we can play actual games together, which was nice. We had make-your-own tacos for lunch and walked down to the water in the afternoon. It’s unusual for the lake to be completely frozen by Christmas, but there’s usually at least an inch or two of solid ice. Not this year! This warmth is freaking me own, to be honest.
December 27
Yesterday, we woke up to 2ish inches of snow! That was wonderful. Gus, the Bernese mountain dog, was especially pleased. But in the morning we drove back to Boston, where it was 50 degrees, to a LOT of unpacking. We moved on Tuesday, actually, so there was unpacking from our trip as well as from moving. I hung up this glass starfish in my window and the calendar on the wall so it’s starting to feel a bit more like my home.
