Many people have pondered over how to make the perfect picnic. I have come up with a perfect pairing of food and whimsy that I am pleased to share. Read on to see how you can improve your summer with the perfect picnic.
What is the definition of a perfect picnic? There is no specific answer to that question, it’s more of a feeling of enjoyment during the picnic and the feeling of a job well done afterward. Today I am going to give you some tips and ideas on what sort of preparations need to be done in order to make this summer known as the summer of the perfect picnics. We’ll discuss both the supplies that you will need as well as some food ideas. Now let’s get started!
Having the Right Supplies Makes a Huge Difference
If you’ve been picnicking on a beach towel with a brown paper bag lunch you’re definitely not capturing the whimsy aspect of picnicking. You can certainly enjoy your lunch without the proper supplies, however, this article is about the perfect picnic. Therefore, beach towels and brown paper bags just aren’t going to make the cut.
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind (other than food) when you hear the word “picnic”? Perhaps it’s “picnic basket,” or maybe “picnic blanket.” Both of those are an excellent place to start, but we’re going to discuss the picnic blanket first.
The most important attribute of a picnic blanket is that it needs to have a layer of waterproofing. The color scheme and design are purely up to your own personal taste, but having a picnic blanket that won’t leak if there is a touch of dampness on the ground is priceless.
If you are imaging a classic picnic, then you will want a wicker basket. There are many different types of wicker baskets that you can choose. Some of them even have compartments to hold plates, cutlery, and even wine! If you’re not completely set on the classic wicker basket look, then you can get a newer style that has more features such as insulation, zippered compartments, and even wheels!
It’s Not a Picnic Without Food
Now that you have a good idea what supplies that you’re going to need, it’s time to talk about food. You can bring anything that you’d like on your picnic, but it would be wise to pick food that is less likely to be messy. Here are a few ideas of what foods would be perfect for your picnic.
- Roll-up Pinwheel Sandwiches – All you need to make these adorable and fun to eat sandwiches are tortillas, cheese, and meat. You can customize these any way you like, from turkey to pepperoni… or both!
- Cheese and Crackers – This is fairly self-explanatory, grab your favorite box of crackers and some slices of cheddar, swiss, or provolone and get snacking.
- Antipasto Skewers – These skewers are also adaptable to your taste. You can add olives, cubed cheeses, cherry tomatoes, pepperoni, salami, tortellini, baby spinach, or just about anything you’d like. People love to eat food on a stick!
