2016 Reader Survey + Giveaway

Hello!

If you don’t follow me on social media, you may have missed why I disappeared. As I’ve mentioned before, the last arthritis treatment I tried did not work, so we decided to go back to the Rixuan infusions. I’ve been waiting to hear when they can fit me in to have it, and then I got a call on Tuesday that they had a cancellation and could I be there on Wednesday at 6 AM for my infusion? The infusions aren’t that bad, but they do take me out of commission for 5 days. But since my body doesn’t like to cooperate at all, this weekend was also pretty miserable health-wise, but that’s a story for another day.

Plus, what you may not know is that I work all day Tuesday and Friday, so I didn’t have the time or energy to set the blog up for my impromptu absence. Normally when I have an infusion, I have plenty of time before to prepare, and I usually get guest posters. I didn’t have any of that, hence the random absence.

Anyway, I’m still not back 100%, but what I was already planning for today was the 2016 reader survey. There are 2 types of questions: demographics and content preferences. I want to know the demographics so I know who I’m talking to and can choose content that best helps my readers. The content preferences will help me write content that you guys like and want! Finally, after answering the questions, you will get a code to enter to win $25 to Starbucks, my thank you for completing the survey. The giveaway will close next Sunday at 11:59 pM EST, but the survey will remain open if you still want to fill it out. Thank you for reading Kate the (Almost) Great and good luck!

There are a lot of reasons why you shouldn't doubt There are a lot of reasons why you shouldn't doubt someone's chronic illness, but this is one of them. ⁣
⁣
I'm always amazed by how people can have the exact same illness or set of illnesses and still have different experiences. Sure, there will be similarities, but which symptoms are the worst, what medications you respond to, and your quality of life can vary significantly. ⁣
⁣
It doesn't mean that one person is necessarily worse off than another; they're just different.⁣

I don’t know the exact date of my RA diagnosis, bu I don’t know the exact date of my RA diagnosis, but this is from right around then in July 2010. ⁣
⁣
When I was diagnosed, I had been having symptoms for 9 years. ⁣
- 9 years of foot pain (partially from tarsal coalition)⁣
- Arthritic damage in said food⁣
- Carpal tunnel off and on for several years⁣
- And more⁣
⁣
I was finally diagnosed because I woke up one morning and was unable to open my jaw more than 8 mm. It turned out that I had horrible arthritic damage to my TMJs, which got me off the waiting list at MGH rheumatology. I left that appointment with an autoimmune arthritis diagnosis. ⁣
⁣
The fact that July is not only my diagnosis anniversary but also Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month has always seemed right. I may not have been diagnosed with JA, but given the amount of arthritis I had along with my many years of symptoms, it's generally accepted that I had it. ⁣
⁣
This year marks 16 years since diagnosis and this fall marks 25 years since my symptoms started. It's pretty weird that so much time has already passed!⁣
