Clothes for the Chronic Pain Warrior in Your Life

Living with chronic pain is hard enough. But something I’ve learned over the last 20 years of living with it is that certain clothes can make your pain even worse. Whether your are looking for yourself or someone else, in this post I’m sharing fantastic clothes for the chronic pain warrior in your life. These are clothes that are super comfortable and most of them are things that I own!

Living with chronic pain is hard enough. But something that makes it harder is how uncomfortable certain clothes can be. In this post, long-time chronic pain patient Kate the (Almost) Great shares her most comfortable clothes for the chronic pain warrior in your life.

I was introduced to most of the clothes in this post through my Trunk Club subscription, which I really enjoy, and it’s especially awesome in the pandemic when I can’t go into a store to browse. Sign up now and get a $50 credit!

Clothes for the Chronic Pain Warrior: Work

These are all clothes that could work if you’re in-person! I’m remote (and my company is remote until further notice) and I wear these all regularly. I have found that the brand Wit & Wisdom makes fantastically comfortable pants. I mean, so incredibly comfortable. I have 2 pairs and highly recommend them, especially if you have back or hip pain.

I’m also a huge fan of comfortable sweaters and simple t-shirt dresses. I really like the t-shirt dress from Target’s Universal Thread because of how simple and comfortable it is. Depending on your company, that might not work for in-person work, but it’s so comfy and easy to dress up.

Here I am, wearing some of the clothes above on Thanksgiving 2020.

Clothes for the Chronic Pain Warrior: Lounging

Let’s be real: this is the category that most of us are in most of the time. I’ve linked some of my favorite leggings, joggers, t-shirts, and more. My most common outfit is some combination of those clothes!

Here I am wearing those Altheta leggings and a similar cardigan back in October 2020. I was at the beginning of my extreme pain episodes in this picture, and I had no idea how much time I would spend wearing variations of this outfit that month. (Also featuring Abby!)

Clothes for the Chronic Pain Warrior: Anything in Between

These are the things that you might not think about but can be totally necessary if you have chronic pain: compression gear and bras without underwire. Compression socks can benefit people with dysautonomia like POTS, but compression gear as a whole also benefits people with inflammation. I’m wearing compression gloves as I type this right now! And anyone who wears bras and has chronic back pain or something similar knows how brutal underwire can be on our pain levels. This lie doesn’t have any!

What clothes or brands have you found work great for your chronic pain?

I’ve heard great things about Wit & Wisdom before, but I’ve never tried their pants. I’ll have to check them out because I’m always on the hunt for comfortable pants!

I’m so glad you included bras because the struggle to find a comfortable one especially when you have back pain is real. Sometimes I wear a sports bra to work just because I can’t wear going through a day wearing a “real” bra.

Cuddlduds thermal stretch leggings are sooo awesome for fibro / sensory issues. I love them!!! (Not their “stretch thermal”. Those are no good)

    Thx for list!

Everyone can benefit from comfy clothes! I love wearing leggings and loose-fitting tops. I also really appreciate you including bras. I am lucky to have found some underwires that don’t cause me pain, but there are still days that I need something a little easier to wear.

I have chronic pain in my hips and back and find loose fitting clothes the best for me so I don’t understand how you all can handle the tight clothing.

This is the face of coronary artery disease⁣ ⁣ Yup This is the face of coronary artery disease⁣
⁣
Yup, I have heart disease. ⁣
⁣
I've mentioned this in bits and pieces over the last year, but in 2025, I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. To be clear, I have basically the lowest amount of artery calcification possible to still have heart disease, but I still have it. ⁣
⁣
Coronary artery disease is a complication of rheumatoid arthritis, as cholesterol can be increased by inflammation. As I hung around the border of coronary artery disease, I got COVID. ⁣
⁣
COVID is also an inflammatory condition, which is why research shows that COVID can increase risk of heart disease. ⁣
⁣
We're keeping an eye on it now, and increasing my cholesterol medication has helped keep my cholesterol down. Which is good because I already eat a pretty heart-healthy diet and exercise is tricky for me. ⁣
⁣
If you have an inflammatory condition like RA or Crohn's, you should know that that inflammation can contribute towards cholesterol levels and therefore heart disease, especially if you've had COVID (and every time you get it increases your risks). ⁣

With Rituxan, iron, and IVIG, I spend a lot of time in the infusion chair. That's a lot of time to kill!⁣

▪ Read on my Kindle⁣
▪ Play games on my phone⁣
▪ Listen to audiobooks⁣
▪ Work - hey, I need all my PTO possible with my health issues. Sometimes I need to work during my iron infusions!⁣
