Gift Guide: Great Gifts for Mom

This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting Kate the (Almost) Great!

It’s time for another gift guide! In this one, as you can tell from the title, I’m sharing great gifts for mom. This actually came from one of you! A few weeks ago, I asked you guys what gift guides you wanted to see this year. If there’s another one you would like to see, now is the time to tell me! Before long, it will be too late, as I plan my posts a while in advance.

In this gift guide, Boston lifestyle blogger Kate the (Almost) Great shares great gifts for mom, including some that she has given her own mom.

2019 Great Gifts for Mom: Photo Gifts

Photo albums – In the age of Facebook and Instagram, we don’t pull together photo albums like our parents did when we were kids. So a few years ago, my mom asked to get photo album(s) for one holiday or another. Now, as you know, I’m not married and I don’t have kids. I even live with my parents. So it’s not like I’m living a separate life from her and she wants to see more of it; she wanted things from when I was in high school and on. Shutteryfly has a few different services for albums. In one service, “Our talented designers will curate your photos and make a photo book for you. Buy it only if you like it!” (x). That service is $9.99, plus the cost of however many pages you do. I like to make them myself, so I do, which starts at $15.99. Another website is Snapfish, which has books starting at $19.99.

Family calendar – A few years ago, someone in my family made a family calendar for my grandma. It included pictures of everyone in my family during our birth months, our birthdays written on the date, the anniversaries included, as well as the traditional holidays (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, etc.). Shutterfly has easel, desk, wall, poster, and magnet calendars. From what I can tell, Snapfish only has easel and wall calendars.

Other photo gifts – There are lots of photo gifts out there! Shutterfly’s mugs are $16.99, ornaments start at $24.99, and iPhone cases start at $24.99. Snapfish’s mugs start at $12.99, ornaments start at $7.99, and phone cases (not just iPhone cases!) start at $34.99.

I got my mom and air fryer last year and it has been her saving grace! So glad to see that was included! And I’m getting my parents a Roomba for Christmas this year so I hope they like it!

There are a lot of medical advancements that I'm g There are a lot of medical advancements that I'm grateful for, but one of them is the ability to do IVIG at home. ⁣
⁣
I'm on IVIG - or, in my case, subcutaneous immunoglobulin replacement therapy - because I have to kill the better part of my immune system. There are, in fact, some parts of my immune system that don't attack me, which is why we add them back in. This helps reduce my chance of serious infection and also made my rheumatologist feel comfortable enough to increase my Rituxan dose. ⁣
⁣
This is a weekly treatment that I do, but it's so much better that I can do it at home than going into the hospital. It takes around 2.5 hours from taking my pre-meds to tossing my needles into a Sharps container. While it's another thing that I have to do, because I do it at home, I don't have to risk exposure to infections at the hospital or deal with Boston traffic, which would add another hour to the process. ⁣
⁣
I can finish my treatment and then go about my day, which I'm very grateful for.⁣

The last two weeks were prepping for my infusion, having/recovering from my infusion, and getting caught up after. This meant things were very busy but also I don’t have a lot to show for them.

1️⃣ New glasses! I really like having multiple pairs so I can switch them as I want.
2️⃣ One of my current projects. I got this standing hoop for my birthday and I’m working on an alphabet (uppercase and lower, although I’m still working on the lower) with extra floss.
3️⃣ Infusion time! I got my higher dose so hopefully my symptoms improve a lot in the upcoming weeks🤞🏻
