My Evening Routine

This is a sponsored post. Thank you for supporting Kate the (Almost) Great!

I’ve written before about my morning routine, so when I got the opportunity to review these awesome sheets, it seemed like the perfect fit.

Boston lifestyle blogger Kate the (Almost) Great shares her evening routine, featuring California Design Den.

Please enjoy me wearing glasses and a sleeping mask, but I like being able to see my pictures when I’m taking them.

Unwind with TV and crossword puzzles – At the end of every day, I watch a couple episodes of whatever show I’m currently binge watching. I like to watch something that I don’t have to pay super close attention to so that I can do crossword puzzles! I got into doing these when I had surgery last year and now I end every day by doing at least 2. I use the Penny Dell Crosswords app on my phone, which give you 3 daily crosswords (easy, medium, and hard) for free! I also got a couple of New York Times crossword puzzle books for Christmas, so I’m slowly working my way through them. NYT puzzles have a reputation of being difficult for a reason!

Skincare Routine – My evening skincare routine includes BOSCIA Clear Complexion Cleanser, after which I use Pixi Glow Tonic Toner. I’ve started using Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Gel Eye Cream, and I’ve been very impressed with it. Finally, I put on Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream! I’ve had super dry skin this winter and it is amazing.

Dental Routine – I try to be very good about my dental health because I’m at risk for gum disease due to RA. (A 2008 student “found that patients with RA were nearly eight times as likely to have periodontal disease as the healthy controls” (x). ) So in addition to brushing my teeth twice a day, I try to floss multiple times a week and use mouth wash as many days as possible.

Read for fun and read the Bible – I’ve been trying to stay off of social media/screens at the end of the day, as well as trying to read more, so I try to set my alarms for the next morning and then put my phone away for the day. (I don’t always succeed!) I’m currently reading Elements of Eloquence, a surprisingly funny book about writing the perfect turn of phrase. I’m also working my way through the Bible. I’ve read most of it before, but in reading daily Bible readings as designated by USCCB and not necessarily in order, so I’m working on that now. I’m going through a plan to read it in a year, but I haven’t been reading every day.

Go to bed! – By this time, it’s usually around 10, if not later, and it’s time to sleep. I’ve been loving these sheets from California Design Den, which are super comfortable. I have the California Design Den 400 Thread Count 100% Cotton Sheet Set in blush, and they come in 5 bed sizes, which cost from $37.99 to $47.99.

Having comfy sheets is vital to a good night’s sleep, and a solid amount of sleep is vital to managing my pain. The California Design Den sheets are more comfortable that my other sheets, so I’m super grateful for the opportunity to try them! You can get them on Amazon or their website and make them a part of your evening routine, too.

Background: I have tarsal coalition and rheumatoid arthritis and had subtalar fusion in my left foot in 2009 and in my right in 2018. While this was started because of the tarsal coalitions, it is a surgery that can help rheumatoid arthritis, too.

SELF-IMAGE WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ It can be rea SELF-IMAGE WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS⁣⁣⁣
⁣
It can be really easy to feel like chronic illness has taken over everything about you and that all you are is a patient. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣
You might be different than you were before you developed symptoms, but that doesn't mean that everything about you is different, even if everything about your life is different. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣
There is no one aspect of our lives that defines all that we are. That's true for LITERALLY EVERYONE! No one is just one thing. We're all many, many things. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣
For example: yes, I'm a chronic illness patient, and yes, I talk about it a lot online. But I'm also someone who is passionate about education, who played 1-3 instruments for 12 years, who is obsessed with her home state, who reads a ridiculous amount of historical fiction, and who has been writing in some capacity for decades. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣
Even if all you know about me is that I'm a chronic illness patient, that doesn't mean that all I am is a chronic illness patient. ⁣⁣⁣

PREPARING FOR SUMMER WITH POTS⁣ ⁣ Summer is right PREPARING FOR SUMMER WITH POTS⁣

Summer is right around the corner. Here are somethings I'm doing now to make it easier. ⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Finding my many fans and making sure they're charged⁣
2️⃣ Increasing my sodium intake ⁣
3️⃣ Making sure I have plenty of @cure, my preferred electrolyte supplement⁣
4️⃣ Getting back into the habit of using Tachymon, the app I use on my watch as pictured here. I have it set to notify me not only when my heart rate gets high, but also when it has changed by a fair amount. Here, it shows my heart rate is 150 and the change from my recent average (104) is 45.6. With POTS, the problem isn't only an increase, but a quick increase. ⁣
