September Favorites

This post was originally going up late last week, but then my immune system decided to be rude, so here we are. ANYWAY. Time to talk about some of my favorite things from this month!
September Favorites Kate the (Almost) Great

Listening

One Direction, Fireproof – I’ve always been a fan of boy bands, and One Direction is no different. And I love this new single!

Ed Sheeran, X – I know it came out a while ago, but I’ve loving it this month!

Reading

I have been so bad at reading this month. I’m still working through An Echo in the Bone!
Websites on clean eating – I’m looking into clean eating to help my body deal with its annoying immune system (#thanksRA). Anyone have tips or suggestions? I’d love to hear!
GRE Prep book – I’m making it through! Slowly but surely. Just about a month until the literature test and 2 weeks beyond that until I take the actual test. I’m using The Official Guide to the GRE Revised General Test, 2nd Edition.
Near and Far Montana – Jenn has been doing this awesome series called I Believe. So far she has talked about respect and community, and they’ve both been great posts.
ChemGradBoom – Caitlyn wrote a few posts about her teaching experiences as a grad student, which I can totally relate to.
The Unreal Life – Autumn is hysterical and clever. In her own words, “I like to blog about: how to stop dating assholes, use appropriate office lingo, say no to strangers and other awkward, unreal things.” Just go. You can thank me later.

The Mountain Rambles – Sarah is going through an experimental surgery soon, so be sure to wish her luck!

The Blog Guide – If you haven’t heard already, The Blog Guide “is a collective knowledge of all things blogging from top bloggers across all of your favorite niches. We want to help you hone in on your perfect blogging personality, design your layout and image, start making money, and all of the little steps in between.” I’m actually a contributor! I write about blogging and career, and there are articles about SEO, photography, HTLM, design, legal, and more.

Wearing (Clothes & Jewelry)

Simple and delicate jewelry like this
Delicate jewelry

American Apparel shirt – as seen in this post!
American Apparel blank shirt
J. Crew Pixie Pants (I’m wearing them in that picture!) Pants that feel like leggings: a sleek and professional look while a whole lot of comfort.

ALSO – I have a post coming up this week which will feature some of the fall fashion trends I got to see over the weekend. So stay tuned for that!

Wearing (Makeup)

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer – This is incredible! It works so well.
“Homemade” Tinted Moisturizer – Recently, I haven’t been so crazy about the thickness of plain foundation. I don’t know if it’s that I have more freckles now and I don’t like covering them up or what, but I’ve been mixing my foundation with moisturizer. This allows me to change the ratio of foundation to moisturizer based on what I want that day, which I really like. I use Revlon Photo Ready foundation and Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Sensitive Skin Ultra-Gentle Facial Moisturizer.

Watching

Big Brother 16 – Who was shocked that Derrick won? No one? Okay, cool. Seriously, though, a winner who never ever got nominated and a member of the final 3 who never won a competition.
Outlander – The show based on one of my all-time favorite book series just had its midseason finale and now I have to wait until April. I’m not okay. If you’ve never read the book go read the first one now, it’s about an English WWII nurse who accidentally goes back in time to 18th century Scotland. Historical fiction with elements of fantasy and romance and action, it’s really and truly incredible. And the show has been labeled the feminist answer to Game of Thrones, so that’s pretty awesome, too.
Doctor Who – I’m so glad it’s back! And I think I love Capaldi.
One Tree Hill – I’m literally years late to the game, but I’ve started watching it and I’m hooked. I can’t believe I’ve never seen it!

I'm in love with One Direction's latest single too! I hope their album sounds like that. I love reading through people's favorites because I always find some new things to try out or it refreshes a love in me. Hearing you talk about OTH made me feel like pulling out my season dvds and binge watching! Who's your favorite character?

It can be really easy to feel like chronic illness has taken over everything about you and that all you are is a patient. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣
You might be different than you were before you developed symptoms, but that doesn't mean that everything about you is different, even if everything about your life is different. ⁣⁣⁣

There is no one aspect of our lives that defines all that we are. That's true for LITERALLY EVERYONE! No one is just one thing. We're all many, many things. ⁣⁣⁣

For example: yes, I'm a chronic illness patient, and yes, I talk about it a lot online. But I'm also someone who is passionate about education, who played 1-3 instruments for 12 years, who is obsessed with her home state, who reads a ridiculous amount of historical fiction, and who has been writing in some capacity for decades. ⁣⁣⁣
