December Blog Traffic Report

Happy 2017! Before we can completely turn to the new year over on my part of the Internet, it’s time to look at my blog traffic from December. As I mentioned in November’s traffic report, when I compare traffic, I’m now looking at growth from the previous month (November in this case) and the previous year instead of the beginning of my journey to grow my traffic.

Sharing what I did that grew my blog traffic by over 40% in December, including the posts that were the most popular.

Traffic Analysis

What I Did

  • How I promote my blog posts
  • Giveaway at the end of November through the beginning of December
  • Added a Resources page
  • Guest posts while I was recovering from my infusion
  • Added more social media networks to the header
  • Rearranged the pages shown in the header

I Haven’t Seen Results From

  • Adding the Resources page
  • Rearranging pages in the header

What I Can Learn from This Month

  • Guest posts are better than no posts
  • Giveaways always bring more traffic
  • Holidays = low traffic (I had fewer than 50 views on Christmas Day)

Goals for December

  • 9-12 posts total – Nope, I only managed 8. But considering I had my infusion on November 30 and then turned in 45+ pages worth of papers for finals, I’m okay with it.
  • 9,000 pageviews – Success!
  • Maintain 40% bounce rate – Success!

Goals for January

  • 9-12 posts
  • 11,000 pageviews
  • Maintain social media

Great post! I just finished writing my December traffic report and I saw my pageviews increase by almost 50% month over month. This was due to having a Pin go viral on Pinterest. The downside is it pushed up my bounce rate a bit.

Good luck on your January goals. What will you be doing to maintain your social media?

Thank you! And congratulations on your own success – it’s very exciting. A large part of maintaining my social media is 1) keeping my social media content calendar going, which involves more than just posting blog things and 2) participate in follow trains in the Facebook blogging groups I’m a part of.

Wow, those are great numbers! Can I ask how you manage to have such a low bounce rate? Mine is pretty high and I’m trying to figure out how I can lower it. Good luck on your goals for January!
